The Department is oriented to development of diagnostics and prevention of significant infectious diseases of cattle and swine, and the development of methods for the detection of food and environmental contamination. The Viral Diseases Unit for Cattle and the Viral Diseases Unit for Pigs are focused on the study of pathogenesis, development of novel diagnostic kits and vaccines (IBR, BVD, BRSV, PI3) and on the creation of control programmes to eliminate infectious diseases. New research outcomes and technologies have been put into practice predominantly in collaboration with breeders’ associations, the State Veterinary Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture (control programmes), as well as with commercial manufacturers of diagnostic kits and bio-preparations (Test-Line, s.r.o., Bioveta a.s.). The Unit of Analytical Biotechnology is specialized in research, development and innovatory methods which allow implementation of novel analytical and diagnostic procedures. Further, it is specialized in monitoring of the environment and safety of food, feeds, water, soil and other components in the food chain. Transfer of new analytical and diagnostic technologies has been carried out by the licensing of these research products with commercial manufacturers (R-Biopharm, Abraxis LLC, Bio Scientific, SEDIUM RD s.r.o.).
