Vision

Vision for the Development of the Veterinary Research Institute
The vision for the further development of the Veterinary Research Institute for the period 2023–2027 is to continue building a self-confident research institution within the Ministry of Agriculture that, in accordance with its founding charter, focuses on basic and applied research and development in the fields of veterinary medicine, veterinary hygiene and ecology, as well as related biomedical, agricultural, and food sciences.
 
In an effort to build on the results of the previous period, additional strategic projects have been prepared or are currently being prepared that reflect the strategic professional and political priorities of the Czech Republic or the European Union, as defined in the following documents:
 
• The “Farm to Fork” Strategy for fair, healthy, and sustainable food systems
• The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030
• The National Policy for Research, Development and Innovation of the Czech Republic 2021+
• The Ministry of Agriculture’s Concept for Research, Development and Innovation for the period 2023+
 
The mission of the Veterinary Research Institute remains to contribute, through research, to the sustainable development of Czech agriculture and the food industry, while striving to improve conditions for farmed animals and reduce the use of antimicrobials in animal production.
 
Objectives of the Long-Term Development Concept of the Research Organization for the Period 2023–2027
 
The Long-Term Development Concept of the Research Organization project is the fundamental financial pillar for achieving all the objectives and visions for the further development of VRI. These can be summarized into four key areas:
 
1) Scientific Area
• Maintain or increase the number of publications in high-quality journals with an impact factor above the median for the respective fields
• Increase the number of publications in journals intended for the professional veterinary and agricultural community
 
2) Applied Research
• Increase the number of outputs with legal protection and licensed applications
• Enhance collaboration with commercial partners to utilize applied research outputs and to better target defined research topics
 
3) Project Area
• Maintain the volume of funding from special-purpose support projects
• Increase the number of special-purpose support projects obtained in collaboration with partners from the applied sector
• Increase the volume of funding obtained through invoiced activities
• Increase the volume of funding obtained from international collaboration
 
4) Development Area
• Continue efforts to reduce the energy intensity of buildings
• Develop new construction infrastructure
 
Across these areas, the objective is to increase international outreach, the proportion of applied research, and the involvement of young, talented researchers.
