Employees of the Veterinary Research Institute participated in the nationwide May challenge Bike, walk or run to work, organized by the AutoMat association. The challenge aims to promote active and sustainable transport, healthy physical activity, and a more considerate approach to the urban environment.
This year, a total of 15 participants from the VRI entered the challenge, forming 4 teams. Together, they covered a total of 2,316.2 km by cycling, walking, or running. During the challenge, some participants also met informally to get to know one another, support each other, and share experiences of active commuting to work.
In the competition for regular transport, the research team from the Department of Microbiology, “Mikrobicyklisti,” won by a wide margin, achieving a regularity rate of 95.23% and covering a total of 1,214.37 km by cycling or walking.
A total of 19,614 participants across the Czech Republic were involved in the May challenge, collectively covering 4,122,330 km by cycling or walking and thereby saving 658 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
We are proud of all VRI employees who took part in the challenge and supported a healthier, more active, and more sustainable way of transport by setting an example. We extend our thanks to all participants for their commitment and hope for their continued support in the next challenge.
