On Thursday, 11 June 2026, the VRI was transformed into the Caribbean Sea. The Institute hosted its popular annual gathering of employees of the Veterinary Research Institute and their family members, this year held with a pirate theme under the title “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE PINK PIG“.
Right at the entrance, visitors were welcomed by a model of the bow of the pirate ship “Pink Pig,” featuring a captain’s bridge, a steering wheel, and a raised flag, where both young and adult pirates could take a souvenir photo. After receiving a map, the children—many of them dressed as pirates—set off to complete tasks at five themed stations. These were enthusiastically run by volunteer staff members of the Institute. The young corsairs tried hoisting a pirate flag, firing a blunderbuss, navigating a ship to the island of Isla de Muerta, as well as an adventure “path of courage” and a “cool-headedness” challenge. At the finish line, a package full of treats awaited the tired pirates for completing the tasks.
This year’s programme was enhanced by a fencing performance, and it also included the customary bouncy castle, face painting, and the popular live animals.
Although the afternoon was marked by a few rain showers that evoked the changeable weather on the open sea, they did not spoil anyone’s mood. All the more, everyone enjoyed the prepared refreshments.
This event once again showed that VRI employees are not only skilled researchers but also know how to enjoy themselves together and create unforgettable experiences for their loved ones. Special thanks go to the entire organizing team and all the volunteers who took part in preparing this event.
