On Monday 18 September, 2023, Mgr. Eliška Čukanová successfully completed her postgraduate study in Veterinary Ecology at the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology of the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno The dissertation thesis, titled "Diagnostic Procedures for Viral Diseases of Bees" was prepared at the VRI´s Department of Infectious Diseases and Preventive Medicine, specifically in the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Diseases, under the supervision of RNDr. Jana Prodělalová, Ph.D. and Mgr. Romana Moutelíková, Ph.D. The work was primarily conducted with the financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture within the project of the National Agency for Agricultural Research "Effective procedures and strategies for management of bee diseases and sustainable beekeeping". Eliška has contributed to many high quality publications and applied results. (https://www.vri.cz/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/142_CM_ProdelalovaFinal.pdf). Viral diseases of honey bees, together with the parasitic mite Varroa destructor, significantly contribute to poor bee colony health. Research in this area presents a vital opportunity to reduce its adverse effects on these important farm animals and pollinators, not limited to agricultural crops.
Congratulations, Eliška, and best wishes for success in both your professional and personal life!
