On 6 and 7 June, the General Assembly of the H2020 consortium project "Biorefineries for the valorisation of macroalgal residual biomass and legume processing by-products to obtain new protein value chains for high-value food and feed applications - ALEHOOP" was hosted by EV-ILVO near Ghent.
The event started with a presentation of the WP1, WP3, WP4 and WP10 work packages by the project leaders and a presentation of the results achieved in the last 6 months. The conclusions and interesting results were then discussed in the framework of the preparation of the periodic report and their follow-up to the plan of activities for the next period was identified.
From the point of view of VÚVeL, the most important discussions were about the required quantity of the test product and the timing of its delivery so that the planned in vivo experiments and the subsequent laboratory analyses can be carried out as soon as possible.
The participants of the GA had the opportunity to see the premises and laboratories of EV-ILVO, where testing of new substances and other research for the ALEHOOP project is carried out, including the pilot plant used within the project.
This was followed by a visit to Nuscience, which is responsible for the preparation of feed additives from protein extract within the project.
The next day's programme was dedicated to presenting the recent activities of the different teams and plans for the second half of 2023.
After two days of intense debates, discussions, collaboration and networking, the 6th ALEHOOP General Assembly ended with great optimism and strength for the next months of work.
