General Assembly of the H2020 NeoGIANT consortium

NEOGIANT 3A 1024x768 1 267x200One of the ways how to fight the resistance of bacterial pathogens to the effects of antimicrobials is to use natural substances with an antibacterial effect. This is the goal of the project "The power of grape extracts: antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to prevent the use of antibiotics in farmed animals NeoGIANT", which is financed under the Horizon 2020 program. Biologically active substances isolated from the marce of white grapes are tested on a variety of bacterial diseases of pigs, cattle, poultry and fish. The role of the Veterinary Research Institute consists of in vitro testing of the safety of isolated substances and in vivo verification of the effectiveness of the preparations being developed on pig models.

The interim results and plans for the next period were presented at the 3rd General Assembly, which took place on May 29 and 30, 2023, in the premises of the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto, Portugal.
