Public Discussions on Projects at VRI

On 28 and 29 January 2026, public discussions on the periodic and final reports for 2025 research projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture were held in the large lecture room of the Veterinary Research Institute.

This year, public discussions were held at the VRI on the execution of activities under the project Long-Term Conceptual Development of a Research Organisation (LCDRO) for 2023–2027, as well as on the periodic and final reports of projects funded by the National Agency for Agricultural Research, for which the Institute is the funding recipient.

The session was opened by the Director of the Institute, Doc. MVDr. Martin Faldyna, Ph.D., who introduced the members of the Review Board and the guests. In his address, he highlighted the importance of the LCDRO project for the Institute’s operation and further development, while also emphasizing the indispensable role of employees’ successful participation in public competitions organized by providers of special support and in the execution of contractual research.

In 2025, the LCDRO project was implemented through seven research plans focusing, among other areas, on infectious diseases, immunology, diagnostics, probiotics, farm animal genetics, toxicology, advanced pharmacology, and the National Sustainability Plan. The research results were put into effect in the form of scientific publications or practical applications. An important role is further played by sharing information with the veterinary and agricultural communities through publications in professional journals and seminars. These results were also positively evaluated in the review prepared by Prof. MVDr. František Treml, CSc.

At the end of the discussion on LCDRO, Doc. Faldyna outlined the significance of the new Institute-wide projects funded by the OP JAK "Support for Return after a Career Break and Development of a Sustainable Career at VRI: VRI Returns" and "Development of a Sustainable Environment for Veterinary Research at VRI". He also highlighted the project "Comprehensive Reduction of Energy Demand in the Veterinary Research Institute buildings", which is funded by the State Environmental Fund and is expected to bring significant savings in the coming period.

The programme also included a public discussion on nine periodic and two final reports of projects funded by the National Agency for Agricultural Research implemented in 2024. The projects covered a wide range of topics, from the health of poultry, ruminants, and pigs to areas related to fish. Among the important results were, for example, the validation of laboratory methods for detecting the illicit use of steroid hormones as growth promoters, the continued development of probiotic mixtures for piglets and poultry, and further advancement of methods in the field of parasitic diseases.

In 2025, the Institute thus confirmed its mission to contribute to the sustainability of animal production and rearing healthy animals.
