REFLECTION ON THE AGRICULTURAL FAIR “BREAD BASKET” 2024

The 50th Agricultural Fair "Bread Basket” has just concluded, attracting almost 130,000 visitors this year — the highest attendance in 20 years.

Part of the Agricultural Fair featured a joint display of public research institutions of the Ministry of Agriculture, including the Veterinary Research Institute. The presentation of applied research and development results incorporated, for example, Dr. Marková's report on the bacterial disease caseous lymphadenitis in small ruminants, and Dr. Št'astný's information on residues of anabolic steroids in food of animal origin. We also provided details about various research activities and offers for the agricultural community, including the VRI ACADEMY series of educational seminars, and addressed many questions regarding scientific research, the Institute, and animal diseases.

However, the most interest was attracted by the probiotic QuoCNA, designed to protect chickens from infectious diseases and enhance their immunity. The product contains nine specific bacterial strains, has a relatively simple formulation, and none of these strains carries antibiotic resistance genes. The Institute was honoured with the "Golden Ear" Award for this product. This award is a notable acknowledgement of the efforts of the team led by Doc Rychlík. We provide more details about the development of this product in the journal Vesmír.

Even the Minister of Agriculture, Marek Výborný, along with his staff, and other representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Veterinary Administration and the breeding community visited our booth.

We appreciate everyone who came to discuss the importance of applied research in the agricultural sector.
