So Good Ideas Don’t Stay in the Lab: VRI Bridges Science and Practice

How can a promising research result be turned into an innovation that finds real-world application? In addition to high-quality science, the right partners, experience, and a clear plan are also needed. This is why the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) was pleased to welcome Dr Kamila Burdová from i&i Prague, a company that helps biotechnology ideas make their way into practice.

i&i Prague supports young biotechnology companies at a stage when they have an interesting idea but are still looking for a path to market. It connects them with investors and industry partners and helps them develop the potential of their innovations. Kamila Burdová works there as an “incubation manager.” For research teams, this kind of experience can be invaluable. What does their result have to offer future users? What still needs to be verified? And who should they approach to help move it forward? Engaging with experts in commercialization helps research teams find answers to questions that go beyond the work carried out in the laboratory itself. The visit of a representative of i&i Prague gives VRI an opportunity to gain new insights and explore opportunities for future collaboration. This is not just about specific ideas, but also about providing systematic support for bringing them into practice. VRI is developing such support through the project “Development of a Sustainable Environment for Veterinary Research at VRI”, Reg. No. CZ.02.01.01/00/23_026/0011496, supported by the Operational Programme Jan Amos Komenský under the call Research Environment. One of its key activities is to support cross-sector collaboration and the commercialization of research results, including the development of a strategy for this area.
