On August 7, 2025, the Veterinary Research Institute was visited by representatives of the Polish National Veterinary Research Institute, PIWet-PIB, Prof. Stanisław Winiarczyk, director of the institute, and Prof. Mirosław Polak, his deputy. The institute, which is located on the outskirts of the city of Puławy in the Lublin Voivodeship, deals with similar areas to the VÚVeL. The institute's staff has been working on the issues of viral, bacterial and parasitic animal diseases and chemical and microbiological safety for 80 years. Therefore, the PIWet representatives listened with interest to the presentations of representatives of all 4 VÚVeL departments - Dr. Matiašovice, Dr. Fichtelová, Dr. Crhánová, Mgr. Černohorská and Dr. Mašek - which focused mainly on the current focus of individual teams and projects being solved.
Prof. Polak then presented the current focus of PIWet, including the functioning of national reference laboratories. He also presented the built infrastructure, including new conventional experimental stables.
Doc. Faldyna also introduced the Polish colleagues to some aspects of the institute's activities, in particular the established system of good laboratory practice. A large part of the discussion was devoted to cooperation with companies and the application sphere, which takes place in the form of collaborative research or is financed from targeted support projects, in particular the project of the National Center for Biotechnology in Veterinary Medicine.
The last part of the program was a visit to the accredited experimental stables. In addition to Dr. Bernardy, Dr. Jeklová and Mrs. Sobotková also participated in the discussion on the use of in vivo experiments in the development and testing of biological preparations and feed supplements.
The visit offered an opportunity to better get to know each other of two institutions that, by their focus, fulfill the same mission – to help animal production through research.
