The Veterinary Research Institute welcomed delegates from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, who visited the Institute as part of a workshop on biosecurity. The guests included representatives of veterinary and agricultural authorities from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The workshop was organised by Mendel University in Brno on behalf of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The participants were introduced to the Institute’s activities and given an opportunity to see some of its research facilities.
The meeting provided a platform for sharing international experience in biological risk prevention and highlighted the contribution of veterinary research to this field. Biological risks transcend national borders, and their effective prevention requires knowledge-sharing and cooperation across countries and disciplines. Such meetings help build professional networks and promote a coordinated approach to health protection in line with the One Health concept, which recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
The visit took place as part of the key activity Internationalisation of the project Research Environment, which supports the development of international contacts and professional collaboration.
