World Accreditation Day – an international initiative – celebrated annually on 9 June, draws attention to the importance of accreditation in supporting quality, safety, and the reliability of results. This year's theme focuses on innovation, trust and sustainability.
The purpose of accreditation is to provide an independent assessment of the technical competence and impartiality of organizations performing testing, calibration, inspection, and certification. It thus gives customers, partners, and supervisory authorities confidence that they can rely on the generated reports and results.
At the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) Centre of Laboratories in Brno, accreditation is viewed as a daily commitment to professionalism, transparency, continuous improvement of processes, and trust in the results obtained. The quality system is an integral part of laboratory work, and its maintenance requires long-term collaboration, thoroughness, and a responsible approach from all staff involved.
However, accreditation at VRI extends beyond laboratory work, and essential components of the Institute’s scientific infrastructure comprise user facilities for animal work, including experimental animal facilities.
“For us, accreditation is not merely a formal requirement, but above all a confirmation that our laboratories operate according to clearly defined rules, professionally and impartially, with a strong emphasis on the reliability of results. In practice, this means continuous attention to quality, regular verification of procedures, and a willingness to improve,” says Barbora Zalewská, MSc., Ph.D., a VRI staff member responsible for laboratory accreditation.
Thus, at VRI, accreditation represents an important tool for ensuring reliable results of laboratory testing and supporting collaboration with inspection authorities, administrative bodies, and professional institutions.
Our thanks go to all colleagues who contribute to maintaining and developing the quality system, as well as our customers for their cooperation and confidence.
